Terms of use

A shared understanding for thoughtful, responsible use.

Using Chalkchalk

Chalkchalk is a learning workspace for course materials, guided practice, student conversations, coding exercises, and teacher feedback. These terms describe your responsibilities when you use the service. The operator is DebatifyAI Inc..

Keep your account information accurate, protect your sign-in credentials, and use only classes and content you are authorized to access. A teacher account does not give you permission to represent a school or accept an agreement on its behalf.

The current pilot offers student and teacher accounts for people age 13 or older. Students can study independently, and teachers can prepare and manage their own coursework. By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 13 and accept these Terms and the Privacy Policy. Accounts for children under 13 are not permitted. This age declaration is not parental consent. Users under 18 should review these terms with a parent or guardian. Student enrollment in teacher-led classes requires separate activation. See Students and children.

Learning and academic integrity

Follow your instructor’s rules about outside help, assessments, collaboration, and disclosure. Do not use Chalkchalk where that help is prohibited or submit generated work as your own.

Automated guidance is designed to support your reasoning with questions and hints. It is generated by AI, can be incorrect, and can sometimes give more help than intended. It is not a human teacher, a grading authority, or a guarantee that an answer meets your course requirements. Check important explanations against your course materials and ask your instructor or teaching assistant when you are unsure.

Class summaries describe activity in the conversations available to the service. They are not measures of mastery, diagnoses, grades, or evidence that a student cheated. Teachers remain responsible for instructional and assessment decisions.

Your materials and upload permission

You retain your rights in the materials and work you upload. You grant Chalkchalk and the service providers it uses a limited, non-exclusive permission to store, copy, process, extract, display, and transmit that content as needed to provide the features you request, maintain the service, and meet legal obligations. This does not transfer ownership of your work.

Only upload material you own, have permission to use for this purpose, or are otherwise legally entitled to upload and process. That permission must cover the intended class sharing and processing by service providers, including model providers. Owning a print book, having a library login, or being enrolled in a course does not by itself grant those rights.

Do not upload pirated textbooks, unauthorized scans, stolen course materials, files obtained by bypassing access controls, or content that infringes someone else’s rights. Educational use is not an automatic exemption from copyright. When permission is unclear, use your own notes, an openly licensed resource, or obtain the rights holder’s permission.

You are responsible for the materials you choose to upload and for the permissions you represent that you hold. Chalkchalk does not provide a license to third-party textbooks or verify every upload in advance. These terms do not eliminate any responsibility the law places on Chalkchalk.

Copyright concerns and removal

To report suspected infringement, contact jett@chalkchalk.com with your contact details, a description of the protected work, the location or identifying details of the material on Chalkchalk, and the basis of your claim. Do not send an additional unauthorized copy of a textbook as evidence.

Chalkchalk may restrict access to reported material while reviewing a claim, remove infringing material, and suspend or terminate accounts responsible for repeated infringement when appropriate. Account owners may be asked to provide permission or licensing information. Applicable notice, counter-notice, and appeal rights are not waived by these terms.

These terms do not claim that Chalkchalk qualifies for a copyright safe harbor. A designated-agent registration and a working notice-and-response process, where required, are separate from posting this page.

Class visibility and processing

In a teacher-led class, the teacher can review student conversations, attachments, saved code, and available code revisions, and can leave feedback. Class materials are available to authorized class members. Other students do not receive access to your private conversation simply by joining the same class.

Personal study courses are separate from teacher-led classes. Their content is not automatically shown to a teacher, but is still processed by Chalkchalk and its service providers. Read the Privacy policy before uploading personal or confidential information.

Acceptable use

Do not harass others, impersonate a teacher or student, distribute unlawful content or malware, probe another person’s account, bypass access controls or usage limits, or interfere with the service. Do not upload passwords, API keys, financial account details, or sensitive information that is unnecessary for the learning task.

Run only code you are authorized to use. The browser workspace has limited language and library support and is not suitable for production systems, confidential credentials, or harmful code. Save an independent copy of important work.

Pilot availability and limits

Chalkchalk is a pilot service. Features, file-processing capacity, usage limits, and availability may change. Uploads and generated responses may fail, take time, or require review. The service may limit usage or suspend access to address abuse, security issues, rights complaints, or operational needs.

Paid plans are described under Plans and payments. You may stop using Chalkchalk at any time; stopping use or leaving a class does not automatically erase stored records.

Plans and payments

Chalkchalk has a Free plan and paid student plans. Only adults age 18 or older may purchase a recurring plan. Before continuing to payment, the purchaser must separately declare that they are at least 18 and accept the displayed recurring charges. Signup does not require an 18+ declaration. These declarations do not independently verify a person’s actual age. Every plan includes the same tutor and tools; a paid plan gives a larger weekly allowance of AI use, shared by the same Chalkchalk account on the website and mobile app. The Plans page shows each plan’s price, billing period, and allowance before you buy. Website prices are in US dollars, with applicable taxes and available discounts shown by Stripe before payment. Where Apple purchases are offered, the app shows Apple’s localized price and renewal period; website and Apple prices may differ.

  • Website billing and renewal: new website plans are charged when you buy and again automatically every month, or every three months for a semester plan, until you cancel. Your purchase confirmation and Billing settings show the amount and billing period for your subscription. Website payments are processed by Stripe; Chalkchalk does not receive your full card number.
  • Apple billing and renewal: where offered, subscriptions purchased in the iPhone or iPad app are billed by Apple and renew automatically every month or every three months, as shown before you confirm. They are linked to the Chalkchalk account used to purchase. Use that same account on every device. Apple manages payment and receipts; Chalkchalk does not receive your full card number or Apple Account password.
  • Cancelling website plans: you can stop the next renewal directly from Settings → Plans → Cancel renewal, or use Manage billing. If you cannot or do not want to sign in, contact the operator at the email on this page to cancel after your website subscription is identified. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep your plan for the rest of the billing period you have already paid for, and then your account moves to the Free plan. Your chats and work are not deleted.
  • Cancelling Apple plans: use Manage Apple subscription in Chalkchalk or Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your Apple device. Sign in with the Apple Account that purchased the plan. Cancel renewal before the next charge; paid access continues until the paid period ends. Chalkchalk’s website cancellation control cannot cancel an Apple subscription. See Apple’s cancellation instructions.
  • Refunds: website payments are non-refundable, including for a partly used billing period, unused allowance, or a plan you stop using, except where a refund is required by law. For purchases billed by Apple, request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple determines eligibility under its terms and applicable law. These terms do not limit mandatory consumer rights.
  • Confirmation: a new subscription purchase requires a separate, unchecked agreement to the displayed recurring charge. Website purchase confirmations and billing receipts can be accessed from Settings and Stripe’s billing portal. Apple provides receipts for Apple purchases through your Apple purchase history.
  • Weekly allowance: each plan’s allowance resets every Monday at 00:00 UTC. Unused allowance does not carry over. Allowances are limits, not a promise of a particular number of messages, and longer questions and bigger files use more.
  • Switching plans: manage website plans through Stripe’s billing portal and Apple plans through Apple subscriptions. Review the updated price, billing period, effective date, and any immediate charge or credit shown by your payment provider before confirming a change. A new subscription purchase requires a fresh confirmation of its price and recurring terms. Buying through both providers does not combine their weekly allowances.
  • Failed payments: your payment provider may retry a failed renewal. Access follows the verified subscription status, including any applicable billing grace period; when paid access ends, your account moves to the Free plan.
  • Price changes: an existing subscription’s price is not increased automatically. Applicable notice, consent, cancellation and refund rights still apply to a change in subscription terms.
  • Under 18: users under 18 can use the Free plan. A minor’s acceptance of these terms does not authorize a recurring purchase. The current signup flow does not offer a parent-purchased student subscription.

Limitations and your rights

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the pilot is provided as available, without a promise of uninterrupted service, error-free content, a particular learning outcome, or suitability for a specific purpose. You are responsible for reviewing generated content and keeping copies of work you need.

To the extent permitted by law, Chalkchalk is not liable for indirect or consequential losses caused by use of the service. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, limits mandatory consumer rights, or excuses unlawful handling of personal data or intellectual property.

Questions and changes

Questions about these terms, an account restriction, or a content concern can be sent to jett@chalkchalk.com. Material changes will be identified by an updated date and, where required, additional notice or renewed agreement.
